Richard Whatman (MIPA, FNTAA) is a Director of Whatman Stratton Accounting Pty Ltd. Richard founded BRW Accounting Pty Ltd before joining forces with Daniel Stratton to establish Whatman Stratton Accounting, bringing together their shared expertise to better serve clients across the Illawarra.

With over 15 years of professional accounting experience, Richard provides a full range of services to individuals, companies, trusts, partnerships and self-managed super funds.

Richard is a Registered Tax Agent, a Member of the Institute of Public Accountants (MIPA), a Fellow of the National Tax & Accountants’ Association (FNTAA), and holds a Public Practice Certificate.

Richard earned his Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Wollongong, majoring in Accounting, Marketing and Public Relations, before completing a Graduate Diploma of Accounting through Charles Sturt University.

With a strong family history in the profession, Richard was mentored by his father, Brian Whatman, and Peter Hawketts — the founding partners of Hawketts Accounting in Picton. Both Brian and Peter continue to offer guidance, bringing more than 80 years of combined experience, including former roles as ATO auditors.

A lifelong local, Richard has lived and worked across the Illawarra, Sydney and Southern Highlands for more than 30 years. Outside the office, he enjoys spending time at the beach with his wife, son, daughter and their Aussie Bulldog, Crumpet.
